MATERIALS NEEDED: 1) any empty can or container 2) paint or colored paper 3) glue or tape 4) scissors
STEP ONE: After choosing the type of can you want, remove the label. Take a string and wrap it around the can....
STEP TWO: Measure out the length and height and circumference with a string or wrap the paper around the can and measure that way. Then, cut the paper accordingly.
STEP THREE: Decide what shape eyes and mouth you'd like. For eyes to print on sticker paper or trace on your own paper, go here.
STEP FOUR: Sketch the eyes and mouth. Use colored paper if you don't want to paint the paper after.
STEP 5: If using a see-through container, cut out the mouth (parents are needed for this part)
STEP 6: Glue or tape the paper onto the container. I used hot glue because it works well and dries instantly. A word of caution: Hot glue is HOT and can burn the skin. An adult is necessary.
STEP 7: Stick on the eyes or paint/color the paper once on the can.
Try making pencil holders out of different soup and vegetable cans and of course, the parmesan cheese container!
I still have the one I made with my grandmother, when I was little, using scrap sewing materials!
